Paul is a qualified mechanical and civil engineer with a background in marine engineering and major infrastructure projects. His career began in the burgeoning oil and gas industry in the late 1970s, where he advanced from field engineer roles to senior corporate management. Over his career, he has worked on projects ranging from fertilizer plant development in Bangladesh to oil and gas field projects in the North Sea, Middle East, and Southeast Asia.

This included his involvement, as a project manager, in the redevelopment of the replacement piper alpha oil and gas field following the 1988 Piper Alpha disaster in the North Sea, the impact of which deeply affected Paul. These experiences began his passionate interest in leadership as distinct from management.  In particular the role of leadership in developing powerful organisation cultures.

As a senior executive in Southeast Asia and Australasia for a global oil and gas service company, Paul came to understand how leadership really impacts the culture of organisations to deliver extraordinary/breakthrough results gaining powerful insights into who leaders need to be to create the organisation culture needed. Paul’s insights included the key attribute of leadership being a deeply sourced commitment to taking care of the people in the organisation, just because it is the right thing to do.

In 1999, he transitioned to consulting, focusing on leadership and organisational culture development. Paul founded Alkoomi in 2005 to pursue his vision of developing leadership in major organisations. Through Alkoomi, he has contributed to large-scale projects such as Terminal 5 at Heathrow, the London 2012 Olympics, and significant infrastructure ventures across various countries and industries.

Now shifting towards individual and organisational leadership coaching, Paul believes that true leadership is about “saving lives” by always treating people with dignity and respect, which naturally leads to exceptional results in all measure of organisation performance.

Paul has been married to Jayne for over 40 years and in their down time they enjoy family time with their adult children, James, a graphic designer and Kate, a metropolitan police officer. Paul is a passionate rugby union fan supporting England and Harlequins and enjoys listening to jazz and sailing.

Working together, Paul and Jayne have built Alkoomi into a highly successful organisation, proud that it has succeeded in making a difference for its clients and their people.
